Fire Safety

Wednesday, June 26, 2019 No comments
In Room 4 we have been learning about 'Fire Safety'.  Today we had a visit from Justin and Andy.  They are firemen from Willowbank Fire Station.  Justin and Andy reminded us to:

*  Make sure we have working smoke alarms in our house
*  If there is a fire, remember to "Get down, get low, get out"
*  Shout "Fire, fire, fire"
*  Stay out
*  Go to your safe meeting place

Special messages for parents from the firemen:

*  Please contact the Willowbank Station (03 473 0618) if you do not have smoke alarms in your home.  They are happy to visit and install them for you free of charge.

*  Please talk to your children about two ways they can exit from each room in your house.  Also decide where your safe meeting place will be.

*  Ringing 111 - Now that all fire engines are dispatched from a call centre in Christchurch, please remember to state your suburb when telling them your address.  If you say your suburb, a fire engine from the closest station will be sent to you.  This will ensure that a fire engine reaches your home as quickly as possible.

On Friday we went for an exciting trip on the bus to visit Araiteuru Marae.  We were welcomed onto the marae and sung waiata with Mrs Yeoman.  During the day we shared our mihi, made feathers for a korowai, enjoyed more waiata and went for a nature walk.  What a wonderful day!  Thank you so much to all the parents that came along with us.
